Toshimora Hoshiko Profile
Character Name: Toshimora Hoshi
Age: 18
Birthday: March 15th
Occupation: Writer, painter, calligrapher and ink sketch artist.
Physical Appearance
Height: 5ft 4in
Weight: 110lb
Blood Type: A pos
Hair: Bright pinkish/purple with bright blue tips, shoulder length and in a new style every day.
Eyes: Orangey brown and pretty wide.
Facial Features: Round and sweet-faced with high cheeks and an adorable little nose, making her look way younger than she is sometimes (particularly when she's pissed off, which cracks Haruichi up). Her skin is also quite tanned naturally.
Other Physical Traits: Hoshi is quite small, but you wouldn't call her scrawny or lithe, she's got pretty substantial curves on all fronts and chubby little legs, and a fit physique.
Handedness: Right handed.
Voice: Hoshi is deaf and always has been, so her pronunciation is very difficult to follow sometimes and she often prefers not to speak, choosing to write instead on her pad of paper. When she does speak her words are somewhat slow and uncertain, unless she's cussing somebody out - because Haruichi has practiced that with her until it's perfect.
Identifying Marks: A burn on her right arm that twists right up and around it, which she doesn't deliberately hide any longer. Family tattoos are orange bands around wrists.
Usual Clothing: Colourful and charming outfits, usually pretty layers of tops and skirts and dresses, and no footwear if she can get away with it. Bracelets and necklaces too, and tiny rows of many studs all the way up her ears. Hoshi basically looks very much like an urban Amegakure citizen... which she once was.
Living Situation: A crappy little flat in the middle of Konoha which she bought with her fiancé Hyuuga Haruichi, and loves completely.
Personality
General Personality Traits: Clever, bright-witted and very eager to learn and experience new things are good ways to describe Hoshi. She's highly individual, and loves colours and brightness and texture in life. Though she's got a temper of her own she is very good at calming other people down, but most especially she is a person who thinks things through when they mean something to her - a quality her fiancé very much admires in her. 'Freestyle' is a good way to describe her, as she's keen to do her own thing and go with the flow very often.
Quirks: Thinks sarcasm is the highest form of communication; signs to her dog... even though she doesn't understand; is scared of heights; refuses to go near any open flame larger than a candle; prefers to go barefoot; prays very often.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Gifts/Talents: Hoshi is an exceptional lip reader and interpreter of a person's body language and facial features (she could out-do most Hyuuga on that score) from spending a lifetime unable to hear. She can also mimic handwriting worryingly well. As her professions no doubt indicate, she's also very artistic and is a very talented calligrapher, painter and writer - though she's so far been unpublished on the latter score. Plus she loves to dance even if she can't hear the music.
Flaws: Despite being so freestyle, Hoshi can become kind of interdependent when she gets close to somebody. It's just because she's afraid of being left behind but its a bit of a flaw. Also, she has a tendency to overcompensate for her deafness by being hard to ignore. Once in a while she'll forget, as well, that just because the war is over the world isn't exactly 100% safe for a teenage girl with neon hair.
Religion & Philosophy: Despite her spectacularly colourful appearance, Hoshi is quite deeply, conservatively and strongly adherent to her faith. She attends shrines each day, and is getting used to going to Konoha's village temple a few times a week.
Likes & Loves: Her religion and everything to do with it, rice noodles with nothing on them, colours and brightness, all sorts of fruits, clocks, Haruichi, Pika and her arts.
Dislikes & Hates: People who practice intolerance of any kind, all sorts of vegetables, being ignored or spoken-over, not having a pen to hand.
Fears: Anything happening to Haruichi that neither of them can cope with (because so long as one of them can deal with it, they'll be alright she believes), fire, hospitals, being ignored and left-behind.
Dreams & Ambitions: To be published! Hopefully to be able to pay a good chunk of the rent that way, too. To have a life and maybe a family with Haruichi in Konoha that's safe, happy and loving.
Relationships
Family: Hoshi's parents and elder sisters died in a fire when she was young, making her a war orphan living on the streets. She was adopted in by a Grass-country temple, and the monks there hid, protected and educated her so she'd call them family, too.
Friends: None in town, yet! Though she is friendly with the temple monks, and has managed to adopt three cats to go with her hearing-aid dog, Pika.
Lover: Hyuuga Haruichi, her fiancé.
Hero: That epic and incredible author, Jiraiya! Also, yeah, Haruichi comes in a way distant second.
Enemies: Same as Haruichi, no question.
Personal History:
Like nearly every family in and around Amegakure, the small Toshimora clan was torn to pieces during the Third Great Ninja War and lost most of its adult members to the fighting... even though none of them were ninjas. The kids were scattered, if they survived the loss of their parents, and Hoshi - being deaf - was at an insane disadvantage. One of her cousins managed to get her to a temple over the border in Grass Country, which was marginally safer than the hideously destabilized arena that the Rain Country had become. Hoshi grew up there from the age of five in the care of the temple monks, who hid her from raiding parties and educated her - though it was a pretty eclectic mix of stuff the monks knew. None of them knew a thing about sign language, so she had to learn to lip-read; she also had to hide if anybody visited the temple - since the war wasn't exactly quiet in Grass Country either and only the monks (sometimes) had any sort of protection of their office from raiders.
There were some close calls, but no disasters, and so Hoshi grew up safe until the end of the war - whereupon she got a tutor to teach her sign language; a rather huge dog to look after her and nudge her when somebody was talking to her and she didn't see them; and set out on a pilgrimage between temples - paying her way with her paintings, calligraphy and drawings as a street vendor. Out on the road she met the (in)famous and rather impressively spectacular Jiraya-sama, who inspired her love of writing to whole new heights. She'd only made three round trips between the shrines and temples she knew of (where she always got a bed, meals and company) when she met Hyuuga Haruichi, fell in love, got engaged, and wound up pilgrimaging on his heels back to Konoha.
