Height: 5ft 7in

Hair: Very dark brown, straight, cut short at the back with longish fringe that always gets in his eyes if he doesn’t have his specs on.
Eyes: Hyuuga eyes. Off-white, very large, no obvious pupils - though Haruichi’s manage to carry a sarcastic sheen.
Skin: Very pale and clear-complexioned, yet does not blush easily.
Facial Features: Haruichi has a very typical 'Hyuuga-esque' set of features, handsome in that way but also prone to expressing some sort of agitation, ennui, snark or annoyance rather easily. He's definitely got articulate black eyebrows which can tell you you're stupid and so's your mama faster than words can say it. That aside, most people don't realize how young Haruichi actually is - assuming anybody as jaded and snarky as him has to be at least mid-to-late-twenties, despite the fact he does look pretty young indeed… especially now that he’s got to wear glasses.
Other Physical Traits: Haruichi has a slender build and is quite small compared to other shinobi; though the fact is he's built for speed and grace and certainly not strength and stamina.
Handedness: Ambidextrous by training.
Voice: Quiet, low, articulate and subtle.
Identifying Marks: Haruichi has a green curse seal tattoo across his forehead which he makes a point of not concealing. He also has a large criss-cross scar across his heart from a major operation when he was fifteen years old.

Usual Clothing: A plain white, grey or black t-shirt and a plain white, grey or black dress shirt over the top which is usually buttoned up a bit and sleeves down. He needs this new auxiliary shirt, you see, because he has glasses now and needs a shirt pocket in which to keep said glasses. And he looks a bit more business like back at HQ with a buttonable shirt. Plus, of course, he wears a pair of black cargo pants, sometimes a lab coat, and always trainers (a.k.a. sneakers), as he hates the navy sandals with a passion. He’s also seen in village uniform a lot more often now - though like most Hyuuga, he’ll wear his own clothes unless an official assignment or task requires the uniform.

Living Situation: Haruichi lives outside of HQ in a small and crappy apartment near the top of a large and crappy apartment building in the shady part of town. He also overnights on shifts in HQ when Kanae-sensei isn't available, but for those he just kips on an unoccupied autopsy table down in the Infirmary.

Ninja Skills
Fighting Style: He fights with the Hyuuga jyuuken in which he is very well versed, and has just qualified at equivalent-ANBU level with a katana. He can also use offensive medical jutsu like chakra scalpels in a fight. Plus he can bite you and poke you in the eye and make you cry and squeal... and then he'll insult you until your ego has curled up and died and left you a hollow and empty shell of a ninja.
Preferred Weapons: His hands, katana and shuriken. And his wit, the sharpest weapon of all (though he tends to use that on 'comrades' more than enemies).
Special Jutsu: Jyuuken and offensive medical jutsu in battle. His healing methods are a tenketsu-based set of techniques using his byakugan and a variation of the jyuuken which are extremely effective and non-invasive. He's also an expert in conventional medical jutsu and regular medical procedures such as prescribing medications, diagnosing illness/injury, setting bones and surgery.
Service Record: Haruichi did not attend Konoha's Ninja Academy but was trained in-clan and passed the graduation exam for gennin status at age nine. From there on he served as part of the village's border guard during the Third Great Ninja War. He was promoted in the field to chuunin rank at age twelve and continued to serve with distinction, also accompanying his cousin to her lessons as she learned to become a medical ninja once Tsunade's programme for training more field medics was imposed.

Haruichi was withdrawn from active duty on medical grounds one week prior to the end of the war when he was aged fifteen. He was made ANBU HQ's live-in medic later that year and regained his active status, achieved first class accreddation in chakra healing, medical jutsu and conventional medical techniques aged sixteen and seventeen; and was promoted to special jounin aged nineteen due to his dedication and increased ability.

Shortly after this he was withdrawn from active service once again over health issues and hospitalized for nearly five months, after which he was on a leave of absence to recover his health. After dedicated training he was placed back on active service four months ago, left on a long-term mission and came back the prerequisite combat and katana skills, physical fitness and capacity to serve in the field.

Relationships
Family: His parents Haruhide and Hotaru died together when he was twelve; his second-cousin and guardian Hinaji died saving his life when they were fifteen; his first cousin (on his mother's side) are the current clan head Hiashi (who he once punched in the face) and his twin Hizashi (who promptly kicked his ass for punching his brother in the face) who died two years ago.
Friends: Well, Shiranui Genma has never left him the hell alone so that probably still counts for something. And there's Hoshi. As for the rest, he figures he'll see when he gets back. Besides that he remembers the name and face of every ANBU who served at any time he served and hopes as many of them as possible (really, he hopes all of them, but knows better from bitter experience) will have survived this far.
Lovers: Toshimora Hoshiko ("Hoshi"), his fiancée.
Hero: Hyuuga Hinaji, his cousin and guardian; his parents, Hotaru and Haruhide, who made damn sure their son knew his moral ground.
Enemies: A sizeable chunk of the Hyuuga clan. Very sizeable. Though he isn't an out-and-out exile any longer... he's not allowed home, none of the Hyuuga talk to him etc... but they won't kick his ass on sight any longer.

Personality
General Personality Traits: A prickly one, is Hyuuga Haruichi, but that's not the half of it. He's pretty much jaded, bitter, sarcastic and scathingly witty - and not a person's first choice for an approachable human as he makes no effort to hide these facts about himself. He spent most of his life past the age of fifteen as a self-enforced loner and is only now trying to get over it by pure necessity (living with someone means you have to do that kind of thing), but that hasn't lessened his snark-impulse. If anything it has honed it to new and terrifying sharpness. He's got a good heart though, and he'll admit to this because he's actually got his cousin's heart and she was a good, decent and wonderful person. Still, the bloody thing makes him do troublesome things like give a damn, and put his all into his work, and risk his health and life for the sake of those who need medical care the most. Not that he'll admit it under pain of torture.

Despite the above, Haruichi has plenty of the more 'negative' traits. He can and will hold a grudge to the end of time, he can be arrogant (but only if he's right, which is all the time) and condescending as hell - not to mention utterly relentless. The last of those traits is probably a plus as well as a minus, because relentlessness is pretty handy for an ANBU... especially if he's their medic. And last of all, he keeps himself to himself on all of these scores as much as he can - being very unwilling to share of himself.

Quirks: Kips on the autopsy tables, is neurotic about the cleanliness of places he spends time, works until he falls asleep, refuses to eat breakfast, drinks cold coffee, allergic to peanuts, in love with a girl with bright pink and blue hair.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Gifts/Talents: Haruichi was always blessed with an inventive and thoroughly practical mind - which helped keep him and his teammates alive during the war, and has helped him gel with the medical profession. He does not have the natural exacting control of his chakra that the medics chosen and trained by Tsunade had; but constant, relentless and bloody-minded practice has meant he's developed a decent talent in the field. As it turns out, he is in fact becoming as gifted a medic as his late cousin and considers it his one redeeming feature. He's an exceptional diagnostician and has exceptional grace under fire in any situation, combat related or not. He's got a gift for reading people, and an even better gift for sarcasm and snark. He also carries on his cousin's work pioneering the field of Byakugan & Tenketsu medicine: a new way of using the Hyuuga bloodline. A rare talent, though he's finding it comes with a price. Outside of healing and fighting he hasn't cultivated any talents, as that is where he's spent his energy for most of his life up until now. Save that he's adept at communicating both ways with civilian sign language now, having learned from Hoshi.
Flaws: Haruichi has a temper and knows how to hold a grudge and sometimes that gets him into trouble; he blames himself for a lot of the very bad things that beset the people around him - especially healthwise, be it physical or mental; and he is so good at covering up when he's being irrational with sarcasm, facts and presentation that people don't realize when he's completely off on one and needs to go sit in the quiet corner.
Religion & Philosophy: The standard fusion of Shintoism & Buddhism common in Japan, stronger now than in the past, thanks largely to surviving his last bout of illness and then meeting Hoshi.
Likes & Loves: Toshimora Hoshi, rice noodles with nothing on them, sneakers, saving lives and healing injuries (and not just so he can bitch at the people for getting injured in the first place once they’re out of the woods).
Dislikes & Hates: Mess and disorder and noise, dealing with stupid people, dealing with stubborn people, wearing sandals, people constantly injuring themselves or getting themselves injured, the division of the Hyuuga Clan, most of the Main Family these days, eating fish.
Fears: Anything bad happening to Hoshi or him letting her down, failing the ANBU agents, one of the Main Hyuuga house members using the seal on one of the Branch... as he knows from personal experience how excruciating it is. Also plumbing. He'd deny it, but he's also still afraid of the higher-ups in the Hyuuga Clan, despite his close family relationships to most of them, and is always internally a wreck when dealing with them.
Dreams & Ambitions: Right now the chief ambition is to be the very best field medic ANBU's got... which shouldn't be hard as he's pretty sure he's one of the only field medics ANBU's got right now. And that's more than partly because the best field medic will always be alive and functional to do his job, which means his girlfriend will have him coming home. Also, to get married to Hoshi once they can.

Personal History
Haruichi was a typical Main Family Hyuuga child. A bit holier-than-thou, very old school in his relations with other people, and very sure of himself and his place in the village. He was a good and straightforward (if traditionally conservative) child and young teen, and put his life in the hands of Konoha to use was seen fit in its defense. His parents were an older couple who had given up on the hope of children when he was born, and they loved him a great deal in their understated and understanding way. They died when he was twelve. He was raised alongside his second cousin, Hinaji, who was the branch family member assigned to protect him.

Haruichi became a shinobi as is expected of Main Family members of the Hyuuga clan. He fought in the later days of the war as part of the village guard, and was trained by his clan members. During all this time he was guarded over by Hinaji - who he not only cared for as a friend and relation, but fell completely in love with over time. She in turn, trained as a medic under Tsuande's medical training program in order to protect him, and help others. Haruichi attended a lot of the classes with her, learning but not attempting to qualify as he lacked Hinaji's natural talent. Striving for professionalism, Haruichi never mentioned those feelings to her or anyone - and never knew what she felt about him.

In the closing days of the war Haruichi and Hinaji were attacked on patrol of the village. He was mortally wounded by a heart injury; and she was badly injured. Using her medical skills she got him home, and then worsened her own injuries to fascilitate the transplant of her heart to him. She saved his life at the cost of her own, and Haruichi still doesn't know if she did it because of her duty as a Branch member... or because she loved him that much.

Physically fragile and emotionally shattered, he was withdrawn from active service and spent all of his time immersing himself in Hinaji's medical texts and personal things. He decided the closest he could get to having her with him would be to continue her medical work and studied privately towards that goal. Meanwhile, Haruichi's personality underwent a drastic change and he became much more withdrawn and developed a consuming hatred of the clan's division.

After committing an undisclosed 'discrescion' and getting himself branded with the Caged Bird Seal, Haruichi was exiled from the clan. He showed up on ANBU's doorstep with a trunk full of his cousin's medical research papers, a vicious headache that took five years and a near death experience to calm down, and the pre-requisite psychological disorders that qualify him for residence in HQ.

He demanded work as the base's medic; and got it. But that was only half the story. Putting everything he had into it, Haruichi served in the officially rather minor capacity of on-site medic in ANBU HQ for four years without a day's pause (except for that one time he got concussed with a pipe during a plumbing accident) and eventually connected - just a tiny bit - with some of the ANBU in a way not entirely revolving around berrating/treating them. The details of those adventures (give or take some continuitity and good sense) exist here at Scarlet Spiral. However, eventually Haruichi's health began to seriously decline - culminating in an episode where his eyes began to bleed, indicating the degredation of his curse seal into his brain and his pretty much imminent death. Haruichi removed himself from active service once again, retreating to the hospital to let them try and save him or at the very least work out exactly what was wrong for the sake of any other sealed Hyuuga who might come after him, expecting to be dead inside a few weeks.

Well, like so much else in his life that didn't pan out either. Haruichi's 'retirement' to the hospital and expectations of imminent death went unfulfilled, Haruichi's curse seal was repaired, his health gradually returned, and Haruichi was permitted to spend the year he was unable to perform any active duties teaching a select few Hyuuga the medical techniques he and his cousin had invented utilizing the byakugan and tenketsu techniques of the clan. He's still exiled though, not that he'd ever expect that to change.

After that it was a matter of training, training and more training. Haruichi was sent as medical and scout support to a long range mission through the different ninja nations which lasted over half a year, and found him rated very highly in katana skills, healthier than he'd ever been, re-trained in battlefield medicine and combat medical jutsu, and perhaps most surprisingly of all... involved with a girl who'd managed to hijack his heart like he'd assumed nobody ever could, would, or might dare.

They're engaged to be married now, but it won't be until she's twenty. Haruichi's supporting them both (not that she isn't trying) and given the fact he hasn't been working for a year and was basically living off of his savings from the not-so-high-paid job as ANBU medic when ended all of two years ago... things are a little tight. There's also the fact that Hoshi's not a Fire Country citizen, and does in fact come from Amegakure... and Haruichi isn't stupid. Amegakure is a nation of insular, cruel, fanatical factions even now - years after the war has officially ended - and the people from there never leave. Nobody has outright said anything, but there have been plenty of raised eyebrows and closed looks. Proving their loyalties through and through to the village, earning the money to support them both, and doing what he knows needs to be done for people he once lived alongside is more than reason enough for him to go back to ANBU.
